Founder: Horace J. Lightworthy, Keeper of the Unlit Flame

A Proud Legacy of Questionable Journalism
Point Moore Press was born in the salty spray of 1878 when a marooned naval clerk, Horace J. Lightworthy, emerged from the dunes near the lighthouse with a typewriter, a half-digested sardine, and an unshakable belief that the people of Geraldton deserved to know some version of the truth.
Having never received an official dismissal from the now-defunct Commonwealth Department of Maritime Luminescence, Horace took it upon himself to remain “on post” indefinitely, broadcasting news, conspiracy, and bioluminescent sea creature warnings from the shadow of Point Moore Lighthouse.
"If they wanted me to stop, they'd write back." – Horace, 1915
The War with the Geraldton Guardian
While others recall the year 1906 for Halley’s Comet, we remember it as the beginning of a bitter rivalry with the Geraldton Guardian — a so-called “paper of record” that dared to suggest the lighthouse should only be used for navigation, not journalism.
What began with passive-aggressive letters soon escalated to headline duels, carrier pigeon sabotage, and the infamous “Fishmongers' Riot of 1933”, which historians still refuse to acknowledge.
Despite repeated ceasefire offers, Point Moore Press has never formally recognised the Guardian's legitimacy. We remain the only legitimate media outlet based in Geraldton, and the only one with the full approval of the Commonwealth Department of Maritime Luminiscence.
Our Mission: Keep Council Honest
Geraldton Council is a vital pillar of the community. We know this because we’ve been actively avoiding them since 1893. Despite multiple “strongly worded letters” and at least one restraining order, Point Moore Press continues to hold the council to account — from a safe distance, atop the lighthouse.
We believe that satire is the sharpest tool in the fight for truth, and we’re happy to keep swinging it.
Unsupervised Since the Great War
Technically still employed by the Commonwealth Department of Maritime Luminescence, we haven’t received orders since before World War I. We continue to fax our reports to a number in Canberra that has been disconnected since 1972, but we remain optimistic.
In the meantime, we’ve appointed ourselves Geraldton’s Lighthouse of Truth™, illuminating dark corners of local affairs, regional politics, and the odd story from outside of Geraldton.
"In the absence of guidance, we make our own rules. And stickers." – Editor’s Note, 1947
