Geraldton Freight Costs Surge After Couriers Demand Danger Pay for Exiting Vehicle North of the S-Bend
Geraldton, WA — Freight companies are scrambling to adjust their pricing models after a coalition of courier drivers formally requested danger pay for any delivery requiring them to exit a vehicle north of the S-Bend.
The move comes after what drivers are describing as an "escalating series of dicey encounters," including hostile dogs, loose car parts, and "suspicious rustling in the bushes that definitely wasn't just the wind."
TNT, one of the region's biggest carriers, has already confirmed new hires will receive body armour alongside their high-vis jackets.

"You can’t expect someone to deliver a parcel to Wandina without being strapped and in kevlar," said a TNT spokesperson.
Drone deliveries are being trialled but described as "safer, but still highly shootable," after one attempt in Mahomets Flats ended with locals mistaking a drone for a high-value clay pigeon.
Some drivers are now only completing deliveries if customers meet them halfway — usually around Eneabba.
"We’ll get your package as far as we can, mate," one driver said. "But I’m not dying for $3 worth of Temu goods."
Businesses are facing new surcharges, with one Bluff Point café owner noting a box of coffee cups now comes with a $45 'risk surcharge' and a signed waiver.
The City of Greater Geraldton has proposed "safe delivery zones," with the nearest one being Dongara.
Residents are advised to track packages closely, wear helmets, and wave white flags when spotting couriers approaching at speed.
